What We Believe…
We Are Christians
-
God is the One and only God. He is the all-powerful, all-knowing, omnipresent, eternal, sovereign Creator of all things as “good.” He has all possible perfections, so he deserves titles like “holy” and “loving.” The One divine being, God, has three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. This Trinity of persons each has distinct personal attributes, but without division of nature, essence, or being. All three persons are coeternal and coequal in divinity.
-
Humanity is God’s special creation, made innocent of sin in the “image of God” as male and female with a material and spiritual make-up (“body and soul”). Adam and Eve freely chose sin against God and so passed along a sinful nature to all of humanity. Because of this sinful nature, humans cannot save themselves and are inclined toward sin. By God’s grace, their souls can be regenerated, and they can fulfill the purpose they were made for: worshipping and serving God. The image of God is present in every human, giving them value despite their sin, proven in Christ’s love for humanity in coming to die for them. Therefore, every human, regardless of what they’ve inherited or chosen, possesses full dignity and is worthy of respect and Christian love.
-
The ultimate securing of our eternity through the work of Jesus Christ. Through personal, repentant belief in Jesus Christ, His death, and His resurrection, man can be “saved” from his sins and given eternal life. This salvation consists of Regeneration, Justification, Sanctification, and Glorification.
Regeneration
Regeneration is God making a sinful human into a new creation, beginning their process of sanctification. It is a change of heart, a re-birth of the soul wrought by the Holy Spirit. Regeneration comes through conviction of sin, to which the sinner responds in repentance toward God and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Repentance and faith are inseparable experiences of grace, repentance being a genuine turning from sin to God and faith being an exercise of the will to accept Jesus as Lord.
Justification
Justification is the act of God, upon one’s faith, to change a human’s label from “sinful” to “righteous” in His sight. This change is based on the righteous death of Christ and forgiveness of sin through it. It results in peace and favor with God.
Sanctification
Sanctification is progress, beginning at regeneration, toward moral and spiritual maturity through the presence and power of the Holy Spirit enabling the Christian to exercise their will toward that end. Growth in grace should continue throughout the regenerate person’s life.
Glorification
Glorification is the culmination of salvation and is the final blessed and abiding state of the redeemed, when the power and presence of sin are removed.
-
God has an eternal plan which includes the election of sinners to salvation. His plan includes human free choice—and other means—within it as means God sovereignly uses to the eschatological end. Consequently, humans are saved by God’s grace, according to God’s purpose, to carry out good works He has prepared for us to advance His plan further. We are not saved by our works or anything we’ve earned but are empowered to do them after regeneration. Consequently, those who have received His grace and so have the Holy Spirit will never fall away from salvation. They will remain securely saved to the final end of glorification.
-
Every Christian and every church has the responsibility and privilege of making disciples of all nations. Having received God’s love and life in Christ, we are to share the gospel message to every human everywhere. Thus we play a role in God redeeming their inherit value as God’s image bearer. For we know that without regeneration by God’s grace through faith, Hell will be the eternal destination of sinful humans. Christians are called to make every effort to express the gospel message near and far, to those like us and unlike us, in words, actions, and methods that are in harmony with Scripture.
-
The Kingdom of God includes both His general Sovereignty over the universe and His Lordship over those who willfully acknowledge Him as King, His Church. People enter the kingdom through believing commitment to Jesus. Christians pray and work toward the advancement of this spiritual kingdom to people all over the world, until the day He returns and brings it to its fullness over all the world.
-
According to His own timing, God will bring the end of history through Jesus’s personal, visible, and bodily return to this earth in glory. All creation will be redeemed and sin purged from it to form the New Heavens and New Earth. All humanity will receive final judgment, as even the dead will be raised. The righteous (the saved) will receive the reward of eternal life and glorified bodies, to live on the New Heavens and New Earth forever. The unrighteous (the unsaved) will receive the punishment of eternal Hell.

-
The Bible—both Old and New Testament together—is the inspired, infallible, and inerrant revelation of God to man, providing all that is needed for faith and salvation, and serving as the supreme standard by which all human conduct, creeds, and religious opinions should be measured.
(2Tim 3:16-17; 1Thes 2:13; 2Pe 1:20,21)
-
A New Testament church is a local body of baptized believers. Our church is a self-governing body operating through democratic processes under the Lordship of Jesus Christ. Thus, church membership is believers making a formal commitment to one another to maintain doctrinal, spiritual, and moral integrity among ourselves through close, loving community grounded in the Word of God.
(Col 1:18; 2Cor 1:1, 8:1)
-
Every believer today is a priest of God and may enter into His presence in prayer directly through our great High Priest, Jesus Christ. As priests, we can study Gods Word, pray for others, and offer spiritual worship to God. We all have equal access to God – whether we are "Clergy" or not.
(1Pet 2:5,9; Rev 5:9-10)
-
The local church should practice two ordinances: 1) Baptism of believers by immersion in water, identifying the individual with Christ in His death, burial, and resurrection. 2) The Lords Supper, or communion – commemorating His death for our sins. These do not bring sanctification in themselves and are not understood as “sacraments.”
(Mat 28:19; 1Co 11:23-32)
-
Every individual, believer or unbeliever, has the liberty to choose what he believes is right in the religious realm. No one should be forced to assent to any belief against his will. Baptist have always opposed religious persecution. However, this liberty does not exempt one from responsibility to the Word of God or from accountability to God Himself. Thus, we heavily emphasize the preaching of the gospel to the whole world.
(Rom 14:5,12; 2Cor 4:2; Titus 1:9)
-
Salvation, from Hell to Heaven, is the gracious gift of God to all who believe in Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord. All true believers will endure to the end and will never fall away from this state of grace.
(Joh 3:16; Eph 2:8-9, John 10: 27-29; Heb 6:4-6)
-
The Bible mandates only two offices in the church – Pastor and Deacon. The three terms "Pastor.. Elder.. & Bishop" all refer to the same office. The two offices of Pastor and Deacon exist within the local church, not as a hierarchy outside or over the local church. We participate willingly in local associations, state mission boards, and the Southern Baptist Convention on the basis of common Christian faith and church practice for the sake of missions and doctrinal integrity.
(1Ti 3, Titus 1:5-9)
-
All Christians are under obligation to seek to make the will of Christ supreme in our own lives and in human society. Means and methods used for the improvement of society and the establishment of righteousness among men can be truly and permanently helpful only when they are rooted in the regeneration of the individual in Christ.
The Christian and the Social Order
In the spirit of Christ, Christians should:
Oppose racism, every form of greed, selfishness, and vice, and all forms of sexual immorality, including adultery, homosexuality, and pornography.
Work to provide for the orphaned, the needy, the abused, the aged, the helpless, and the sick.
Speak on behalf of the unborn and contend for the sanctity of all human life from conception to natural death.
Seek to bring industry, government, and society as a whole under the sway of the principles of righteousness, truth, and brotherly love.
In order to promote these ends, Christians should be ready to work with all men of good will in any good cause, always being careful to act in the spirit of love without compromising their loyalty to Christ and His truth.
Peace and War
It is the duty of Christians to seek peace with all men on the basis of righteous principles. We should do all in our power to put an end to war insofar as it accords with the spirit and teachings of Christ. The true remedy for “the war spirit” is the gospel of Jesus. The supreme need of the world is the acceptance of Him and His teachings, and the practical application of His law of love to all the affairs of men and nations. Christian people throughout the world should pray for peace under the reign of the Prince of Peace.
Religious Liberty
A free church in a free state is the Christian ideal. This implies the right of free and unhindered access to God on the part of all humanity. It also implies the right to form and propagate opinions in the sphere of religion without civil governments interfering.
God alone is Lord of the conscience, and He has left it free from the doctrines and commandments of men which are contrary to His Word or not contained in it. Church and state should be separate. The state owes to every church protection and full freedom in the pursuit of its spiritual ends. In providing for such freedom no church, religious group, or denomination should be favored by the state more than others.
Civil government being ordained of God, it is the duty of Christian to obey it in all things that are not against the teachings of Scripture. The church should not resort to the civil power to carry on its work. The gospel of Christ utilizes spiritual means for the pursuit of its ends. The state has no right to impose penalties for religious opinions of any kind. The state has no right to impose taxes for the support of any form of religion.

Christ’s people should organize such associations and conventions as may best secure cooperation for the great objects of the Kingdom of God. Such organizations have no authority over the churches but are voluntary and advisory. They are designed to make the most efficient, impactful use of church ministry resources like time, treasure, and talents. Churches should work together to carry forward the missionary, educational, and benevolent ministries that extend Christ’s Kingdom. Cooperation is desirable between the various Christian denominations, when the goal is itself justified, and when such cooperation does not violate conscience or compromise loyalty to God.
Stewardship
God is the source of all blessings, temporal and spiritual. Christians have a debtorship to the whole world as we have been granted the gospel and possessions by God to use and share well. We are under obligation to serve God and advance His Kingdom with our time, talents, and material treasures. We are to use them to spread the gospel and help others. Christians should give cheerfully, regularly, systematically, proportionately, and liberally to advance these Kingdom purposes.
Education
In Jesus Christ abide all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. All sound learning is, therefore, a part of our Christian heritage. The new birth opens all human faculties and creates a thirst for knowledge. Moreover, the cause of education in the Kingdom of Christ is co-ordinate with the causes of missions and general benevolence, and should receive support from the churches as well. An adequate system of Christian education is necessary to a complete spiritual program for Christ’s people. In Christian education, there should be a proper balance between academic freedom and academic responsibility, in line with the authority of Jesus and His Word.
Cooperation
The Cooperative Program of giving to sponsor missions around the world, Christian education of our people, and the advancement of kingdom interests in every nation. We fellowship with these other churches on the bases expressed above, despite disagreements on minor theological and practical concerns, to ensure God’s Kingdom is spread around the world to every person.

God has ordained the family as the foundational institution of human society. It is composed of persons related to one another by marriage, blood, or adoption. Marriage is the uniting of one man and one woman in covenant commitment for a lifetime. It is God’s unique gift to reveal the union between Christ and His church.
(Col 1:18; 2Cor 1:1, 8:1)
Husband and Wife
The husband and wife are of equal worth before God, since both are created in God’s image. The marriage relationship models the way God and His people relate: the husband laying down his life in love for his wife as Christ did for the church, the wife laying down her life to her husband in response as the church does to Christ.
Children
Children, from the moment of conception, are a blessing and heritage from the Lord. Parents are to teach their children spiritual and moral values and to lead them, through modeling and shepherding, to make choices based on biblical truth. Children are to honor and obey their parents.
This statement of belief was drawn directly from the Baptist Faith and Message (2000).
